What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is the process of using thought, imagery and emotion to communicate
with the unconscious mind in order to heal and be free of mental and emotional pain and problems.
Hypnotherapy can involve being guided into a deeply relaxed state but it can also be done in a simple relaxed conversational manner.
During hypnotherapy sessions clients are completely aware, awake and conscious.
The whole process is quite safe and loving.
Hypnotherapy is profoundly effective in creating healing transformative change.
What is hypnosis and how is it different from hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis is defined simply as a state of heightened suggestibility. We actually experience hypnosis all the time. Our mind goes in and out of altered states of consciousness throughout our everyday life; it is common daily experience.
Hypnotherapy is the process of using this state of hypnosis to help people heal and be free of confusion and pain.
Is hypnotherapy mind control or brainwashing?
No, it is not mind-control. Hypnotherapy is a method of deep healing and positive change. All hypnosis is actually self hypnosis; meaning that the client is always awake, fully aware and in control during the entire hypnotherapy process.
The client follows the guidance of the therapist, yet the client does all the work inside their own mind and body.
Can anyone be hypnotized?
Yes, anyone who desires to be hypnotized can be hypnotized. Remember, hypnosis is a natural, everyday occurrence.
What can hypnotherapy be used for?
Hypnotherapy can be used for anything related to the mind. Hypnotherapy can help or alleviate craving, depression, eating disorders, shame, issues, negative habits, suicidal ideation, confusion, and so much more.
Hypnotherapy can help anyone who wants to experience more peace, joy, happiness, clarity and power in their life.
How does hypnotherapy use the subconscious mind?
People sometimes, mistakenly, think that during the hypnotic state the conscious mind either goes to sleep or becomes unaware.
Actually, the conscious mind is completely awake and aware. However, the usual egoic defenses that are up during normal waking consciousness are relaxed which allows for a broad ocean of consciousness to be tapped into for healing purposes.
From this state of deep relaxation, communication between the subconscious and the conscious mind is opened making it easy to work with parts of our mind that we don’t always have direct access to.
Why would I want access to my subconscious mind?
In the hypnotic state, we are able to more easily access the programs (automatic processes) that create our behavior, attitudes, and beliefs (and thus, our reality!).
The subconscious mind is in charge of approximately 90% of our consciousness, so if we change our subconscious thinking there can be big and positive changes.
The subconscious mind is the source of our automatic processes and emotions, the root of habits and addictions and a storehouse of all of our memories and resources.
What should I expect during my first visit?
During the first session, we discuss what you want to work on and your history of your relationship with the issue and also just get to know each other. We discuss any questions you may have and we work together to determine your goals.
We also talk about the hypnotherapeutic process so that you feel very comfortable with how the process works. When you are ready you will relax while seated or lying down and we will begin the hypnotherapy session.
What is the process of a session like? How does it feel?
You sit or lie down in a relaxed and comfortable position with your eyes closed. You are guided through a deep relaxation of the body and mind, which feels calming and rejuvenating. From this deeply relaxed state you are guided to engage in the theater of the mind in order to discover what you need to help you resolve the issue you want to work on.
Your conscious and subconscious mind work together to form images, impressions, and sensations that will guide you into healing and balance. So much wonderful work can be done from this deeply relaxed state!
Everyone has a unique experience of how they feel after a session and most everyone reports feel relaxed and happier.
Do I need to have a specific problem or symptom when I come to a hypnotherapist?
Often clients come to a first session because they want help with a specific issue.
However, we also love working with clients who are focused on their ongoing personal growth, self-care, and becoming the best version of themselves.
How many sessions do you recommend?
The recommended number of sessions varies with each person. Hypnotherapy is not a cookie-cutter therapy.
Each session is tailored to meet your needs. We offer ongoing support via skype or phone as well.
What are the options, after an initial visit, for ongoing support?
Ongoing support can look a lot of different ways. After your first session we discuss plans for future sessions.
Sometimes you do not need to do any more sessions after the initial session. However you may very well want another session to work with something else that you became aware of during your session.
After an initial visit we offer skype or phone support to all of our clients. This is a fun and affordable way to stay motivated and enthusiastic about your growth without having a full hypnotherapy session in person.
